![]() They're pretty much going to be there for hundreds of years or longer. ![]() I'm an avid lover of getting rid of clutter, and I realize this is probably mostly trash we're talking about but I've studied landfills. And I thought it ridiculous to subject her ghost to the indignity of photographing her stained panties, lol.Īt any rate, what you're going through is tough, and I know firsthand how baffling and frustrating it is to deal with folks who have deranged and concerning perceptions of their trash's value. No one should want the used underwear of a slightly incontinent 94 year old woman, especially not her son. Luckily I'd already taken it to the drop off. He was so horrified and actually wanted me to go get it back because it might be valuable. He asked me, no joke, what I'd done with his mother's lingerie, since he hadn't seen any photos of it in the inventory! I said I'd put it in textile recycling. So I nearly lost my mind when my SO's uncle- who is himself a full-blown hoarder- went rummaging through the donate and trash piles, rescuing stuff like blenders missing lids or cords, alumni directories for a university he didn't attend from 3 decades ago, and hopelessly stained tea towels. Every cupboard and closet was crammed, and two rooms were unusable 'cause they were filled with boxes up to 5 feet high. The parents weren't all the way to hoarder (nothing gross/unsanitary), but there's so much fuckin' stuff. The part about your dad STILL trying to trash pick stuff even after a company refused to handle it made me scream a little bit in recognition/secondhand frustration.Ĭontext: My SO's dad and uncle hired me to photo inventory the contents of their late parents' house. Other people have given you good advice on the dumpster front, so I just wanna say I feel for you. I think if they can't do second round at this point, it's more possible for us now to fit it all in a Penske truck and take it to the appropriate landfill. Despite the fact that a company who is paid to remove junk refused even our junk, my dad is still trying to salvage what he can and take it to their new house.Įdit: We managed to find a metal recycling company who came by and took half which makes me feel a little better. They called their boss and had to turn us down. Today, I had an appointment with the GetJunk people to estimate and possibly remove some of the stuff we moved outside and have already broken down. ![]() One room was basically unopened for 2 decades from being filled to capacity and when we moved every thing out it was just a sea of feces. They moved down the street into my grandmother's house after she passed and left this house to just fall apart even thought they still pay for it.ĭilapidation aside, every room is filled with TVs, electronics, and thousands of magazines/news articles they printed out and never threw away. Long story very short, SO and I are cleaning out my parents old house for possible renovation. Sorry for the vent, I have to get this off my chest. ![]()
